Instructions
Key option 11 against the Test Case where the Script you are about to record will be stored. The following screen is displayed.

Enter a Script name in the above window. Also specify whether or not the Test Case should be executed prior to the first screen being recorded using the Run Case option. The default value for this option is a ‘1’. Press Enter.
If the Run Case option was left as ‘1’, the Test Case will be executed and the screen initiated by the first interactive Test Case process will be displayed. If the Run Case option was set to ‘2’, the Test Case will not be executed and the Sign On screen for the new session is displayed. If you do not wish to begin recording from here, sign on to the session and access the screen from which you wish recording to begin.
Once you are on the screen from which recording should begin, press the Home key.
Select option ‘1’ to start recording and press Enter. The reverse image status bar on the display will change from ‘Home’ to ‘Recording’ after a short time delay.

Operate the session as normal. Please note that keystrokes and cursor movements are not recorded, only the data when you press the next ‘Action On’ key (eg. Function Keys, Enter, Page Up/Down), so don’t worry about keying mistakes.
Press the Home key at any time and take option 5 to display the script recorded so far (see later ‘Screen List’ section for more information about this display).
When you reach the final screen in the script, press the Home key and take option 2 to stop recording. The reverse image status bar will change back to ‘Home’. Remember to always record the exit from the last screen, eg. F3. NB: If you chose to run the Test Case prior to recording the script, when you exit from the initial screen that was displayed, recording will automatically be stopped and the session ended. Steps 9 and 10 will not be necessary.
Sign off the session if you are not currently on the Sign On screen.
Press the Home key and take option 9 to end the session.
Key option ‘1’ in the next window to save the Script, or option ‘2’ to discard it if you do not wish to keep it.
Modify any of the Script Options (see later section for more information) and press Enter to complete the recording process. The script has now been saved on the iSeries where it can be viewed and modified from Maintain a Test Case.

Notes
Pressing F6 on the Record Control display shown above causes the 5250 buffer to be displayed every time data is sent between the session and the iSeries. F7 can also be used to store the buffer in a file which can be sent to Original Software. This assists in problem determination and should remain ‘Off’ unless otherwise instructed.
